A homeless shoplifting suspect was arrested Monday afternoon at the Belk store in The Villages.
Johny Ray Billings, 48, shortly after 1 p.m. entered the store at La Plaza Grande and selected multiple items of clothing, according an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. He took the clothing into a fitting room, but when he came out, it appeared as though he was carrying fewer items than what he had taken in with him.
The store’s loss prevention officer checked the fitting room and found empty hangers.
Billings was stopped outside the store by the loss prevention officer. Billings admitted he had stolen a shirt valued at $22 and a pair of jeans valued at $69.49, the report indicated.
Billings has several previous shoplifting arrests, including a 2017 case at Kohl’s in Lady Lake.
He was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail on $2,000 bond.
