A 74-year-old Villager was arrested after law enforcement was called to a wine-soaked brawl at the Village of Bridgeport at Miona Shores.
Robert Edward Staufenberg was arrested on a charge of battery Friday at his home at 2343 Pawleys Island Path.
Staufenberg called 911 as a result of a physical altercation in which he knocked his wife to the floor, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Tensions were apparently rising when she was looking for some papers that Staufenberg then discovered. She accused him of “hiding” the papers. She told deputies Staufenberg was drunk and wanted to know where his wife had put his glass of wine. She picked up the glass and threw the wine at him, staining his clothing. In retaliation, Staufenberg pushed his wife, causing her to fall and strike her head on the wood floor.
The Philadelphia native called 911 because his wife had a stroke a few months ago and he apparently feared for her health as a result of the fall, the report said.
He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $100 bond.
