A dog’s owner was issued a citation after leaving a nine-month-old Terrier inside a Cadillac SUV parked at Target at Rolling Acres Plaza.

The interior temperature of the vehicle had reached 103 degrees.

When a Lady Lake Animal Control officer arrived on the scene shortly after 4 p.m. May 2, she found the vehicle parked in the direct sunlight. The dog was wearing a full furry body harness. The vehicle’s windows had been lowered about two inches. No water had been left for the animal.

The animal control officer removed the dog from the Cadillac and put it in her air-conditioned truck.

The owner was determined to be Shelly Underwood, who lives in the Rolling Acres Apartments. She told the animal control officer that she thought the dog would be fine because the windows had been cracked. Underwood said the Terrier is a service dog for her son.
