Village of Sanibel man arrested after alleged attack on woman

Kenneth Leibach

A Village of Sanibel man was arrested after an alleged attack on a woman.

Kenneth Leibach, 71, who lives at 855 Fenwick Loop, spent the weekend at the Sumter County Detention Center following his arrest Friday afternoon on a felony charge of domestic battery by strangulation.

A 72-year-old woman told Sumter County sheriff’s deputies that Leibach was angry because she had double-knotted his shoelaces. He told her to fix the knot. As she was untying his shoes, he “became angry” and pushed the woman onto her back. The Illinois native straddled her, kneeled over her torso and placed both of his hands around her neck, according to the arrest report.

Leibach confirmed the woman’s account of what had happened.

He was initially held without bond, but a judge later set Leibach’s bond at $2,000.
