A pharmacist foiled a woman’s attempt to pick up a fraudulent prescription at Publix at Southern Trace Plaza in The Villages.
Jennifer Denise Williams, 44, who lives in Oakland Hills in Lady Lake, on Friday tried to pick up the fraudulent prescriptions for promethazine with codeine and for amoxicillin, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The person calling in the prescription pretended to be a doctor. A check revealed the number from which the call was received was not a doctor’s office, but rather a cell phone. The pharmacist contacted law enforcement and was told to call back when the person showed up to pick up the prescriptions.
Williams showed up shortly before 9 p.m. and presented her driver’s license for pickup of the prescriptions. The pharmacist filled the prescriptions with water and was about to hand them over to Williams when deputies arrived on the scene.
Williams was arrested on a charge of fraud and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. She was released after posting $1,500 bond.
