A bicyclist was hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Fruitland Park.

Fruitland Park Police officers conduct an accident investigation after a bicyclist was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and Gray’s Airport Road on Tuesday.

Neither the bicyclist’s name nor his condition was immediately available but he was airlifted from the scene at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and Grays Airport Road. The man appeared to be hit in the middle of the highway, as a mangled black bicycle was on its side in the median of the intersection in front of Finch’s U-Stor-It and Phillips Buick GMC.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., traffic on northbound Hwy. 27/441 was backed up all the way past the intersection with Dixie Avenue. Multiple Fruitland Park Police officers were on scene and were busy diverting traffic into a single-file lane onto Grays Airport Road. And two officers could be seen meticulously taking measurements in the closed lanes of the highway as they conducted an accident investigation.
