A Villager’s grown son was arrested after a battle with his mother who wanted him to leave her home in the Village of Sunset Ridge at the Village of Sunset Pointe.
Jeffrey Simpson Moore, 54, was spotted at 8:14 a.m. Thursday driving on Bailey Trail when he was detained by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies who were investigating an alleged altercation that had taken place earlier.
Moore’s mother said she had been trying to tell her son that he needed to move out of her house. The 81-year-old told deputies her son was inside his bedroom and she had been standing in the doorway telling him to leave.
Moore “continued to grow angrier and started yelling” at his mother, indicating to her he wasn’t leaving, the arrest report said.
Moore then left his bedroom and pushed his mother in the stomach.
The St. Petersburg native was arrested on a felony charge of battery on a person over the age of 65. He was booked without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
The Village of Sunset Ridge at the Village of Sunset Pointe is notable for its residents occasionally talking of seceding from Sunset Pointe.
Moore’s mother and her late husband bought their home in 2005 for $678,100.
