Stolen semi-automatic AR-15 rifle found at Villages hotel after anonymous tip

La Hacienda Hotel was the original hotel in The Villages.

A stolen semi-automatic AR-15 rifle was discovered at a hotel in The Villages after law enforcement received an anonymous tip.

Lady Lake police and Sumter County sheriff’s detectives teamed up on the afternoon of June 27 to investigate the tip received through Crimeline.

The tip led to the La Hacienda Hotel at 1201 Avenida Central, where the weapon was found wrapped in an afghan-style blanket and buried in a flower bed on the second floor. The serial number confirmed the weapon had been reported stolen in Lake County.

The weapon has been connected to another case in Lake County.
