A lifelong Wildwood resident was honored Monday for saving a man’s life at a Brownwood restaurant.
Sean Williams, who owns PSL Construction Co. with his wife, Justine, received a citation from Wildwood Police Chief Randy Parmer at a meeting of the city commission.
Williams, 46, his wife and son were dining on Fathers’ Day, June 16, on the outdoor patio of Bluefin Grill & Bar when he noticed a man choking at another table.
While others called 911, Williams rushed to the table, grabbed the man and performed the Heimlich maneuver, which dislodged a piece of food blocking the man’s throat. The man, who then could breathe again, was not identified.
The Heimlich maneuver is a first-aid procedure in which strong pressure is applied to the abdomen to dislodge food stuck in the throat.
“A tragedy was avoided,” Parmer said, praising Williams for his “commitment to mankind and the community.”
Family members and friends of Williams applauded as he was presented with a framed copy of Parmer’s citation. Among those in attendance was Bluefin owner Fred Karimipour.
Mayor Ed Wolf, a retired teacher, recalled Williams’ childhood and coaching with his father in Wildwood schools.
PSL Construction, which builds and remodels homes, was founded in 2001. In 2010, the name PSL was adopted, which stands for “plumb, square and level,” construction industry terms for precision.
“When someone from the community does something like this, it’s always a special reason to recognize them,” Parmer said. “This is typical of his approach and his attitude. He’s a big supporter of Wildwood.”
