A suspect reportedly used a garage door code to steal $85,000 worth of a dead Villager’s jewelry.
Kyle Spencer Clark-Lighty, 24, gained access to the code through his mother, who cleaned and watched the dog for the Villager who died May 27, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
The Villager left behind a signed list of heirloom jewelry to be distributed to her family members upon her death. The jewelry included a diamond engagement ring, an opal ring with matching earrings, a gold diamond tennis bracelet, a ruby band, a diamond heart and silver diamond tennis bracelet, round diamond earrings, a Jewish star with colored stones, flower-shaped diamond earrings, and a gold charm holder including a Mezuzah charm.
The family traveled to The Villages on June 20 for a celebration of life and to clean out the dead woman’s residence.
Family members found the list, but the jewelry was missing.
A check revealed Clark-Lighty “continually accessed” the dead woman’s residence because he had the code to the garage door. He had pawned several pieces of the jewelry.
Clark-Lighty, who lives at 737 Sugarfoot Lane just off Micro Racetrack Road, was arrested on charge of grand theft and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
Clark-Lighty had been arrested in 2015 by Lady Lake police after he was caught with marijuana.
