Familiar face at YOUR Humane Society SPCA ready to retire

Anne Miller, a longtime employee at YOUR Humane Society SPCA, plans to retire on Thursday, July 25.

A longtime employee at YOUR Humane Society SPCA is retiring.

Anne Miller, who moved to Sumter County from the Tampa area approximately 14 years ago, plans to retire on Thursday, July 25. She originally became involved with animal rescue work and YOUR Humane Society SPCA during a large hoarding case in 2010.

At the time, Miller was an employee of Sumter County Animal Services but also volunteered with the no-kill organization to help dogs and cats find loving homes. She later helped YOUR Humane Society SPCA accomplish a large transition from being a foster-based animal rescue to an on-site shelter.

Miller’s strong work ethic and commitment to bettering the lives of animals was what YOUR Humane Society SPCA wanted as part of their dedicated staff. Over the years, she has held many positions as the shelter grew – adoption coordinator, shelter manager and her recent role as office manager.

Miller’s experience and training, paired with her quiet leadership, got the shelter through the planning and safe evacuation of the shelter animals safely ahead of Hurricane Irma, a notable achievement in her animal care career.

Members of the public are invited to say goodbye to Miller during a farewell gathering on Wednesday, July 24 from 4-6 p.m. The event will be held at the shelter at 994 CR 529A in Lake Panasoffkee.

YOUR Humane Society SPCA, formerly known as the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, Inc., is a non-profit, no-kill organization helping animals in need throughout their local communities. Donations directly help to cover the cost of saving, treating and caring for neglected, abused and abandoned animals. Learn more at hsspca.org, call (352) 793-9117 or visit the facility at 994 CR 529A in Lake Panasoffkee. You can check out the organization’s Facebook page by clicking HERE. And visitors are always welcome.

The shelter’s office hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Kennel pet viewing hours are Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
