Woman arrested on grand theft charge at Belk at La Plaza Grande

Paola Mariel Torres-Melendez

A woman was arrested on a grand theft charge at Belk at La Plaza Grande in The Villages.

Paola Mariel Torres-Melendez, 23, of Leesburg, entered the store Saturday afternoon, selected six items of clothing and took them into a fitting room, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. When she came out of the fitting room, she was not carrying the items and a subsequent check showed she did not leave them behind in the fitting room. A loss prevention officer stopped Torres-Melendez. The stolen merchandise, valued at $309.45, was found in her purse.

She was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $2,000.
