A shoplifting suspect was nabbed at Spanish Springs after allegedly fleeing with stolen merchandise from a store in The Villages.
Bonnie Lynn Johnson, 40, of Ocala, on Monday afternoon had gone into Belk at La Plaza Grande and selected a Nautica T-shirt, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. She concealed the merchandise and left the store.
Johnson was confronted by a loss prevention officer who asked her to step back inside the store. She refused, then got into a blue Chevrolet Impala and drove away. Lady Lake police were alerted and an officer stopped Johnson’s car at Main Street and U.S. Hwy. 27/441.
Johnson refused to get out of the car and instead pulled out her cell phone. Multiple officers removed Johnson from the car as she resisted commands to put her hands behind her back.
The stolen T-shirt was found in the vehicle and still had the tags on it.
Johnson was arrested on charges of theft, resisting a law enforcement officer and resisting a merchant. She was booked on $4,000 bond at the Lake County Jail.
