Pair in stolen car arrested at Lowe’s

Mackenzie Leigh Dewalt
Daniel Allen Mahan

A man and a woman in a stolen vehicle were arrested at Lowe’s on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Lady Lake.

The red Dodge pickup was traveling at 2:47 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 near Buenos Aires Boulevard in The Villages when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy ran the number and discovered the license plate belonged on a Lincoln utility vehicle.

During a traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle was identified as 32-year-old Daniel Allen Mahan, of Umatilla, and a front-seat passenger was identified as 23-year-old Mackenzie Leigh Dewalt, of Fruitland Park.

The deputy asked to check the vehicle’s identification number but found that it had been painted over with black spray paint. The deputy was able to rub the paint off and learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Marion County.

The pair were also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both were arrested on charges of vehicle theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center.
