David Kimmel

A resident of The Villages was arrested on a charge of disorderly intoxication after allegedly threatening staff and yelling obscenities at a restaurant here in Florida Friendliest Hometown.

Lady Lake police were called Tuesday night to Applebee’s restaurant, where staffers said the suspect had left and was at Belk at nearby La Plaza Grande. Officers found 61-year-old David Kimmel, who lists an address on the Historic Side of The Villages. He had slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet, according to an arrest report. He was told by police to stay away from Applebee’s and Belk or he would face arrest.

At about 8:30 p.m. that night, customers at Winn-Dixie at Spanish Springs complained about a man who was cursing and yelling at customers as they left the store. Kimmel was arrested on a charge of disorderly intoxication and booked at the Lake County Jail.

The Maryland native had been free on bond following a pair of arrests in connection with a disturbance at a Villages hotel. That bond has been revoked.
