A prison guard who volunteered at Sumter County schools has been arrested on child pornography charges.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division executed a search warrant at 6 a.m. Tuesday in Lake Panasoffkee at the home of 43-year-old James Theodore Wojnarowski. He was arrested at the scene. Wojnarowski confessed to possessing and transmitting several child pornographic images.
Sheriff’s deputies had been acting on a tip when they raided Wojnarowski’s home.
He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on 15 counts of possession of child pornography. Bond was set at $150,000.
The Coleman Federal Prison employee previously has volunteered with the Sumter County School system.
At this time, it does not appear that there are any local victims and the investigation is ongoing, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Wojnarowski has been dismissed as a Sumter County School volunteer and barred from all Sumter County Schools.
