77-year-old jailed after refusing to pull over for squad car with lights and siren activated

Edward Dewees

A 77-year-old was jailed after refusing to pull over for a squad car with its lights and siren activated.

Edward Dewees, of Lady Lake, was driving a silver Chrysler mini-van at 1:41 p.m. Friday on Griffinview Drive across U.S. Hwy. 27/441 when a police officer ran his license plate and learned that a seize tag order had been issued, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The police officer activated his emergency lights, but Dewees kept driving. The officer turned on the car’s siren and Dewees finally stopped on West McClendon Street.

The officer asked Dewees to step out of the vehicle and tried to handcuff him. He pulled away multiple times, the report indicated. A passerby stopped and helped the officer detain Dewees.

He was arrested on charges of fleeing and eluding law enforcement and resisting arrest. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released on his own recognizance.
