Jacksonville bowler nabs Senior Shootout Championship at Fiesta Bowl

A Jacksonville man took home the trophy from this past Saturday’s 2018-19 Senior Shootout Championship at Fiesta Bowl.

Rory Peterson made the most of his invitation from the previous non-winners’ event to capture his first Senior Shootout title by beating out Dennis Rakauskas, of Apopka, and Sam Bass, of Dunnellon. Sixty-two bowlers competed in the event.

Peterson and Rakauskas started out their match with six strikes apiece. Peterson faltered with a spare in the seventh frame, but the tide quickly turned when he followed with a double. He then secured the title with a spare/strike 10th frame for a 257 game. Rakauskas tallied 245 for second and Bass scored 194 after a late split in the third game.

Peterson took home $1,000, the championship trophy courtesy of Fiesta Bowl, a champion’s shirt courtesy of Gotta Get Your Name On shirts and embroidery and a paid entry into the September 2019 Senior Shootout. And he automatically is eligible to defend his title in the 2019-20 season championship in August 2020.

Rakauskas won $700 and Bass took home $400. Semi-finalists Steve Ferraro and Ken Smith won $250 apiece. The complete results from the Senior Shootout can be viewed at Fiesta Bowl and by clicking HERE.

The next event will be Sept. 21. It will serve as the start of the 2019-20 season and is open to all bowlers 55 and older. The format, rules and prices will remain the same for the upcoming season.
