Tyler Justine Blaze Borgert

A Summerfield man who was driving without a license was arrested Tuesday night after he was caught speeding in Belleview.

A Belleview Police officer stopped 20-year-old Tyler Justine Blaze Borgert at the intersection of SE 62nd Avenue Rd. and SE 55th Avenue after he clocked him traveling at 61 mph in a posted 35 mph zone. Borgert told the officer his gas tank was almost empty, so he was driving fast to get a to gas station, a police report says.

When asked for his license and registration, Borgert said he didn’t have either one with him. He claimed that his license was valid but told the officer his name was Brandon James Lee and his birthday was Aug. 29, 1997. The officer noted that he “was stuttering and kept correcting his date of birth and address.”

After running a check and finding no information on a Brandon James Lee, a Belleview police corporal arrived and recognized Borgert as an acquaintance of his son. The corporal knew him by Ty and Borgert then said his name was Tyler James Tyler Lee before correcting himself and claiming to be Brandon James Tyler Lee. The officer conducted another records check with negative results and Borgert then admitted that he didn’t have a driver’s license, the report says.

Borgert was taken into custody and placed in the back of the officer’s patrol vehicle. While the officer and corporal were arranging for the registered owner of the gray Volkswagen to pick up the vehicle, Borgert said he would provide his real name “to make it easier” on the officer, the report says.

Another records check showed that Borgert’s license had been suspended or canceled on July 22, May 16 and April 23. It also showed that Borgert had an active warrant for a probation violation, which the officer confirmed.

Borgert was transported to the Marion County Jail, where he agreed to speak with the officer. He said he lied about his name because he knew his license wasn’t valid, the report says.

Borgert also told the officer that he was involved in a crash in March and had been notified that his license had been suspended for insurance reasons. He claimed to have sorted out the insurance issue but never got his license reinstated. He said he received two citations for the crash but didn’t pay them because he was working on his probation. And he said he didn’t know that he had an outstanding warrant, the report says.

Borgert, who lives at 9335 SE 143rd Ln. in Summerfield, was charged with giving a false name to a law enforcement officer, knowingly driving while license suspended and probation violations for possession of cannabis over 20 grams, possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of cannabis less than 20 grams. He also was issued citations for speeding and knowingly driving with a license suspended or revoked.

Borgert was being held on $1,500 bond on the new charges and no bond on the probation violations and is due in court Oct. 10-11, jail records show.
