Villager jailed as out-of-state fugitive wanted in Texas

Mark Edward Smith

An out-of-state fugitive was arrested by Marion County sheriff’s deputies early Tuesday afternoon at his Villages residence.

Mark Edward Smith, 53, was taken into custody at his home at 8356 SE 176th Lawson Loop in the Village of Piedmont. Smith was arrested on a Denton County, Texas warrant for violating his probation for credit or debit card abuse. He was transported to the Marion County Jail, where he is being held without bond.

The house where Smith was living is owned by Herman E. and Mary Frances Smith. They purchased the home new in March 2003 for $173,392. It’s unclear what, if any, relation the couple is to Mark Smith.
