The Republican Federated Women of The Villages (RFWTV) will pay tribute to a state senator and hear from a former state representative at its upcoming meeting.
The group will meet Thursday, Sept. 12 at Bacall Recreation Center. Social time kicks off at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting will get under way 30 minutes later. The gathering is part of the organization’s continuing theme of education titled “From the School House to the White House, How Women Make a Difference.” All Republican women and men are invited to attend.
According to Marina Woolcock, president of the group, Sen. Dennis Baxley will be honored for his constant and continual support of the club.
“In 2018, Sen. Baxley helped provide us with funding to achieve our goal of generating a big vote out of our county,” Woolcock said. “Because of his personal assistance, the RFWTV made 40,000 telephone contacts, which resulted in Sumter County being #1 in Florida with the highest percentage of voter turnout.”
Former State Rep. Marlene O’Toole will share her perspective on how women at the local level can and should be involved in the political and government process in Sumter County. She also will speak from personal experience and explain the importance of being involved in the legislative process at the state level and staying in touch with state and local officials to make sure “bad ideas” aren’t moving forward.
National Committeewoman Kathy King, who represents Florida at the National Republican Committee meetings, will share how residents can participate as volunteers at the National Republican Convention in 2020. And Woolcock, who also serves as a Sumter County State Committeewoman, will discuss her involvement with Women For Trump and talk about how to get involved in the national effort.
Finally, a panel discussion will be hosted by Research Chair Mary Tripp. The topic will center on what Republican women can do to make a difference.
