Dawn Marie Marusa

A Wildwood woman arrested on drug charges in April is back behind bars, this time for allegedly trying to shoplift an iPhone case and other items from a discount store in Lady Lake.

Dawn Marie Marusa, 49, of 515 3rd Avenue, was charged with retail theft after being arrested Sunday at the Dollar General store at 312 U.S. Hwy. 441.

The store manager told Lady Lake Police that he saw a purple iPhone 6S case in Marusa’s hand while she was in the books section. He said he then saw her go down the aisle and place an empty phone case package in the $1 value section, according to the police report.

The manager retrieved the empty packaging and notified officers about the theft occurring. Marusa passed all points of sale without trying to pay. As she exited the store, she saw the officers and said, “Oh, I just put this stuff in my purse to bring it out to my friend to see if she wanted it,” the report said.

Marusa was searched and the following stolen items were found in her purse: purple iPhone 6S case ($8 value), black scarf ($7.50), makeup setting spray ($4.50) and a black USB charging cable ($5). Total value of the items was $25.

Marusa was taken to the Lake County Jail, where she’s being held on $500 bond. She’ll answer to the charge in Lake County Court on Oct. 14.
