Fans and foes of President Trump turned out hours ahead of his appearance in The Villages.
Spanish Springs Town Square was brimming with excitement in anticipation of Trump’s speech on Medicare set for 1:30 p.m. at The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center.
Air Force One is scheduled to touch down at the airport in Ocala and Trump then will be ferried by Marine One to The Villages Polo Fields. Once he steps off the helicopter, a motorcade will take the president to Spanish Springs. The Saddlebrook Softball Complex was shut down for the day to accommodate the arrival and departure of the president’s helicopter.
People who were fortunate enough to score tickets to the invitation-only event were already lined up under the scorching sun, eager to claim seats inside the venue, when the doors opened.
Villager Tammy Adams was out early at the square to show her support for the president.
“We want to make sure the country is heading in the right direction,” she said. “Trump is the right person to lead us there.”
Meanwhile, Village of Alhambra resident Peter Davidson was standing outside TooJay’s Gourmet Deli holding two signs, both expressing disapproval of Trump.
