A school bus fight between two brothers drew the attention of a school resource officer when one of the boys allegedly threatened to stab the other with a knife when they got home.
The assistant principal in charge of discipline at Lake Weir Middle School, 10220 SE Sunset Harbor Road in Summerfield, reported Monday’s incident to the Marion County sheriff’s deputy who serves as the resource officer. The assistant principal said the altercation was minor and nobody was hurt, but she was concerned about the threat, according to the sheriff’s office report.
The boys are 13 and 11 years old and are in eighth and sixth grade, respectively. The victim told the deputy his brother said he would stab him with a knife when they got home, but he didn’t feel threatened because it was a common issue with his brother, the report said.
The brother accused of making the threat started crying when the deputy arrived at the office to interview him. He said his brother made up the statement about the threat and that he has no intents or thoughts of harming him. He said he didn’t say anything about stabbing anyone, let alone his brother, according to the report.
The boys’ mother said she has no concerns about her accused son and that her other son is making up statements. She said her accused son would never threaten anyone in that manner, and that he doesn’t have access to knives in the home other than common kitchen knives. The boy’s mother added she has been having issues disciplining him lately and there have been incidents where he’s punched holes in walls and threw items when he became angry, the report said.
Another deputy went to the family’s home on Hemlock Way in Ocala and confirmed the children have no access to weapons. No further action was taken.
