To the Editor:
As the generation that started Earth Day, we are very aware of our impact on our fragile earth. I am disappointed that much of what we recycle ends up in a landfill here in The Villages. There have to be better alternatives when other countries have figured out how to handle their recycling in a variety of ways. I am disappointed in the options currently available to us here in The Villages.
As a conscientious steward of the earth and concern about my carbon footprint, I would like to see what has become standard in many communities (trash and recycling containers in public areas, at the very least.) With the greenhouses now operating in The Villages why can’t we start composting our compostable waste to reduce greenhouse gases? I would not mind seeing more recycling pick up and less trash, to help people realize just how much of what is purchased is actually recyclable. In order to leave the earth in better condition for my grandchildren, I have no problem with paying additional fees to protect what we have. Let’s look at our long term impact and figure this out.
