Jessica Lynn Drum

A Summerfield woman who was driving a vehicle with no visible license tag and no rear running lights found herself behind bars early Wednesday morning.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy stopped the 1999 white International truck in the 17999 block of S Hwy. 475 and spoke with the driver, 36-year-old Jessica Lynn Drum. She claimed to be Jessica Kate Watkins and said she didn’t have her driver’s license with her, but it was valid. She provided the deputy a date of birth of Oct. 2, 1983.

After a computer check showed no information about anyone named Jessica Watkins, a sheriff’s sergeant asked Drum if she had a purse. She said it was in her truck and she went to get it. A short time later, a deputy went around to the passenger window and saw Drum attempting to conceal a black-and-orange glass pipe that field-tested positive for marijuana, a sheriff’s office report states.

Drum first claimed the pipe belonged to a co-worker but then said it was hers. A search of the vehicle then revealed a black bag in-between the front seats that contained several pouches, Drum’s driver’s license, several dollar bills, loose change and a key. The pouches contained a white crystal substance and a clear glass pipe with burnt residue that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, the report says.

Deputies also discovered that Drum’s license had been suspended indefinitely on June 13 for criminal failure to pay. She told deputies that she gave them a fake name because she thought she had an outstanding warrant and “did not want to get in trouble,” the report says.

After deputies checked and found that Drum didn’t have any outstanding warrants, she admitted to owning the black-and-orange glass pipe but nothing else that was found inside the vehicle. She also apologized multiple times for giving deputies a false name, the report says.

Drum, who lives at 2550 SE 178th St. in Summerfield, was transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of drug equipment, driving while license suspended and giving false identification to a law enforcement officer. She was being held on $4,000 bond and her next court date hasn’t yet been set.
