Battle over TV ends with husband’s arrest at Comfort Suites in The Villages

Ronald Lamar Jones

A battle over a television ended with a husband’s arrest at the Comfort Suites in The Villages.

Ronald Jones, 36, of Lady Lake, was arrested Sunday night on a felony charge of battery by strangulation after his vehicle was spotted in the parking lot of the hotel on Avenida Central.

Law enforcement began looking for the Texas native after his wife reported that she broke their television “out of anger” at their home on Grays Airport Road, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The broken television “enraged” her husband and prompted him to attack her. He spat in her right eye and continued to advance toward her. Jones, who stands 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds, placed her in a chokehold, preventing her from breathing. She nearly passed out, according to the arrest report.

He picked up the broken television and threw it through the front driver’s side window of his wife’s vehicle. He slashed her two front tires and then fled the scene.

He was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $5,000 bond.
