Even the tree lighting at Rockefeller Center is still free

Dave Dupas

Say it ain’t so. I heard that powers to be want to set up a tent and charge some people to come and watch the tree lighting in the squares. Talk about being a Grinch.

There are only three reasons I can think of why they would do that:

1. Maybe they think some of us are stupid.

2. Maybe they think some of us have so much money we will pay for anything they give us. (again stupid).

3. Maybe there are some of us who want to hob nob with the important and powerful people, and will pay to do it. Oh well.

We have 120,000 people in The Villages and probably another 30,000 around The Villages. With those numbers they will always find 1,000 to fill up anything they put out there including The Sharon, Katie Belle’s and the squares. They did the same thing for the 4th of July.

What will they charge for next?

There is only one tree that would be worth paying to see the tree lighting. That is in New York City’s Rockefeller Center. Been there and it was great. And that is a tree worth seeing.

Oh, wait a minute, if you are in New York at the time it is lit, it is free. And if not, you can watch it nationwide on your 70-inch very high def TV at home. (Almost like being there). Sipping whatever beverage you want at almost no cost. And the elements do not matter.

I will opt for the Rockefeller tree lighting any time. And, I will check out the trees in The Villages the day after.
