Citrus Springs bowler edges out Lady Lake kegler to take Super Shoot Out victory

Rick Pittman

A Lady Lake bowler came close to nabbing the November Senior Shoot Out title at Fiesta Bowl but was edged out by a kegler from Citrus Springs.

A power-packed final round saw Lady Lake’s Rick Pittman take the early lead, with Keith Sharp, of Citrus Springs, close on his heels. Both bowlers split the fifth frame and marked the sixth.

Then, uncharacteristic fouls by Pittman in the seventh and eighth frames opened the door for Sharp. He raced through by striking out from the sixth frame forward to capture his first Senior Shoot Out title with a 256 game.

Ron Woods, of Hudson, took full advantage of the Super Senior rule, getting to continue as the 11th Super Senior out of the 23 entered. Only 10 made the natural cut of 591.

Woods kept pace with the leaders early, but three splits in the second half of the game – including one in the 10th frame – allowed Pittman to finish just ahead of him, 182 to 180.

For the win, Sharp took home the winner’s share of $275, a champion’s shirt courtesy of Gotta Get Your Name On! Shirt and Embroidery and a paid entry into the December Senior Shoot Out. He also is automatically eligible for the season championship in August 2020.
Pittman won $175, followed by Woods with $125. Semifinalists John Pullen and Mike Raines won $90 apiece.

All told, 65 bowlers competed in the Nov. 16 Senior Shoot Out. The next event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 21. For complete results, click HERE.
