Katherine Marie Brown (Kangas)

Katherine Brown

Katherine Marie Brown (Kangas) died December 4, 2019.

She was born on May 11, 1956 in Two Harbors, Minnesota and was raised in Dollar Bay, Michigan. She was married to Jack R. Brown Jr. on May 21, 1977 in Calumet, Michigan. She and Jack lived in a number of places throughout Michigan but spent twenty years in Traverse City before moving to The Villages in 2014. Kathy graduated from Hancock High School and Lansing Community College with a Paralegal degree.

She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Kangas, and her mother Virginia (Ginger) Mech. She is survived by her loving husband, Jack; three children, Melissa, Heather and Jason; six grandchildren who were the love of her life (Kennedy, Avelina, Mila, Jack, Emerson and Brody), and five siblings (Kenny Paul, Charlie, Mike, Marge, and Ruben). Those who wish to celebrate her life in a special way can make gifts in her memory to The Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida (https://www.dsacf.org/donate).

My daughter, Melissa, told me that her mother once told her that instead of a funeral she wanted to go out with a celebration, akin to a New Orleans Mardi Gras party. To that end, Kathy would love to have you bring the beverage of your choice (The Villages allows BYOB style events only). The family will provide light snacks and non-alcoholic refreshments. Lets all get together and throw a party that she will being looking down on and laughing with. The first celebration will be at the Captiva Recreation Center on December 12th from 4pm to 6pm (658 Pinellas Place, The Villages, FL 32162). A second service in Michigan will be held in the Spring.
