Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution are preparing to meet later this month at the Eisenhower Recreation Center.
The John Bartram Chapter will meet from 9:30-noon on Friday, Feb. 21 and will hear from Bob and Kim DisPennett, who are members of the Miami (Ohio) Cherokee and Shoshone tribes.
The DisPennetts spend their time attending Native American cultural events from Indiana to Florida. They enjoy teaching others to play Indian flutes and have recorded an album of Indian flute music. They will share their knowledge of the history and the impact that Native Americans have had on our country. They also will demonstrate how various items were used in their traditions.
Villagers and area residents also can see the DisPennetts at the Silver River Museum and Environmental Education Center for the Knap In & Stone Age Arts Festival the weekend of Feb. 15-16. That event is open to the public at Silver Springs State Park in Ocala.
