Dennis knew

John Shewchuk

In honor of the late Dennis John Petrucelli Sr., I write this article. Although I only met Dennis once, I know we had the same passion for human liberty and trust in America’s greatness. At the same time, we equally recognized the dangers of our open society. This is especially true of the First Amendment, which includes the freedom of speech.

The freedom of speech, including a free media, are critical to the free flow of information and opinion.  But with this freedom comes the opportunity to distribute false and even misleading information, which unfortunately has existed throughout history.  This was clearly stated by President Ronald Reagan, and referenced in one of Dennis’ articles … “The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.”

This “isn’t so” approach was clearly demonstrated by President Barack Hussein Obama when he proudly said the following during his 2008 nomination victory speech, “This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.”  I’m not sure about the healing part, but the data clearly shows that the rise of the oceans began to slow about 7,000 years ago — not in 2008.

In another article, Dennis mentions how the limousine liberals constantly exhibit how they intend to rule us … do as we say, not as we do. This is especially evident when it comes to the monotonous, carbon-dioxide, control-knob hoax with respect to global warming. While they fly private jets, we are told to ride bikes.  And to label everyone a climate denier is ridiculous, since everyone knows the climate is always changing, just like it has for billions of years.

A great example of climate misinformation came from a comment made about my last article, “Climate change now has a big brother.” Someone commented about the recent record high temperature seen at Esperanza Base on Antarctica, and said … “There aren’t any volcanoes in this area.”  First of all, Esperanza Base sits on the Trinity Peninsula, which is located at the warmest, most northerly part of the Antarctica peninsula.  It’s now summer time down there, and there will be many more high temperature readings because we are in the middle of an Interglacial Warming Period — and our climate is supposed to get warmer for Pete’s sake!

Second of all … regarding the volcanoes … here we go again with another example of “isn’t so” misinformation.  All you have to do is Google “Antarctica 91 volcanoes” to see that there are at least 4 volcanoes on the Trinity Peninsula.  The volcanoes are all sub-glacial with an unknown number that have active, heat-generating vents.  And … why do you think the nearby Deception Island has hot springs?

But no matter … AOC says we’ll all perish within 12 years.  Ho-hum … again?  This brings back fond memories of Al Gore’s 10-year forecast saying that all Arctic summer ice would melt in 2016.  Don’t you just love political propaganda?  More importantly, Dennis also knew, just like the vast majority of scientists do, that the earth will continue to naturally warm, just like it has done many times before during past Interglacial Warming Periods.  And when Mother Nature is good and ready, she’ll start the cooling trend into the next Ice Age glaciation.
