Daniel Zehnal

An 85-year-old Villager was jailed without bond after paying a visit to his estranged wife.

Daniel Zehnal had been free on bond following his arrest in January after an attack on his 83-year-old wife prompted a frantic 911 call. She had been forced to knee him in the groin during the altercation.

In defiance of a court order, Zehnal called his wife on Monday and announced he was on his way to their home in the Village of Santo Domingo.

A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy met the Cleveland, Ohio native at the home he and his wife had purchased in 1998 on Margarita Drive. The deputy reminded Zehnal that he was not allowed to be at the home as part of his earlier release on bond. The deputy attempted to handcuff Zehnal, but he pulled away and resisted arrest. The deputy took Zehnal to the ground, but he continued to resist the deputy’s efforts to take him into custody.

Zehnal was booked without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
