Daniel Robert Miller, 72, died March 24, 2020 with his family by his side in The Villages, Florida.
Dan was born October 11, 1947 in Pittsburgh, PA to J. Robert Miller and Bessie B. Blatt. He attended Shaler High School in the North Hills. Dan was a medic in the Army Reserve and later continued his education at Waynesburg University receiving his bachelor’s degree.
Dan married the love of his life Edie Miller on August 9, 1969 and they have two children, Scott and Jennifer. Dan had a long-distinguished career in Pittsburgh at Duquesne Light Company where he retired after 42 years of service.
Dan loved spending time outdoors in the warm sunshine. He volunteered with Tutors for Kids helping to enhance young children’s reading and math skills. As an animal lover, you’d often find him volunteering his time at a local horse farm. Dan and Edie loved to travel including places like Las Vegas, Hawaii, Sonoma, The Grand Canyon, Mexico and many other places.
Dan’s biggest joy in life came from spending time with his family. He made every little moment feel extra special. He is best known as “Dad” or “Pap” to those closest to him. He was legendary for playing with army men on the floor for hours on end, watching the Cars movie a thousand times and even tickling feet. He’d willfully volunteer to play barbies, UNO, dolls and color for as long as the kids requested. He was truly a selfless man that adored and respected his wife every day and was always actively involved in his family’s activities even from afar.
Dan is survived by his wife Edie, his son, Scott and his wife Teri and their children Brady, Brandon and Ashley as well as their daughter, Jennifer and her husband, David and their daughters Shelly and Layla.
