South Sumter High School is reeling after the murder of one of its students.
A makeshift memorial has been set up under a large oak tree outside the school in honor of David Lyons Jr., a senior.
The 19-year-old was fatally shot Monday at the intersection of Missouri Avenue and North Warfield Avenue in Wildwood.
“This is a very difficult time for us,” said Principal Christine McKinney. “All of us are grieving this tragic loss.”
The Wildwood Police Department is looking for information from the public as the investigation continues into Lyons’ death.
If anyone has information regarding Lyons’ death, they are asked to contact Detective D. Clarkson at (352) 661-0888 or dclarkson@wildwood-fl.gov and reference case number WWPD20OFF000378. Those with information can also call Crime Line at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477)
