Another tri-county resident has lost the battle against the deadly Coronavirus.
The latest victim has been identified as a 61-year-old Ocala woman who had underlying health conditions. She marked the 32nd death related to COVID-19 in the local area, where 130 people have required some sort of hospital care.
As of Saturday, the tri-county was reporting 637 cases of the virus – an increase of just nine patients from Friday. The Villages continues to hold steady at 78 cases. The overwhelming majority – 70 – are in Sumter Couty where most of the homes in the mega-retirement community are located. Seven have been identified in the Lake County portion of The Villages, while at least one lives in the Marion County portion of the sprawling community.
Sumter County is reporting 221 cases, an increase of just four in a 24-hour period. Of those, 160 are men, 60 are women, one is a non-resident and they range in age from 17 to 97. There have been 14 deaths and 41 people have been hospitalized.
Bushnell continues to lead the way in Sumter County with 101 cases. Other cities reporting positive test results include Lake Panasoffkee (22); Wildwood (8); Webster (7); Coleman (3); Oxford (2); Sorrento (2) and Sumterville (1). There also have been six cases reported in the Lady Lake portion of the county.
Lake County is reporting 234 cases, with the majority – 81 – being in Clermont. The patients are comprised of 111 men, 111 women and 12 non-residents. They range in age from 1 to 86. There have been 13 deaths and 62 people have required hospital care.
Leesburg is reporting 37 cases of the virus, with 10 others identified in Lady Lake. Other Lady County towns and cities with COVID-19 patients include Tavares (17), Eustis (16), Mount Dora (14), Groveland (14), Mascotte (12), Minneola (6), Sorrento (2), Okahumpka (1), Montverde (1), Umatilla (1), Howey-in-the-Hills (1), Grand Island (1) and Yalaha (1).
Marion County now has 182 cases of the Coronavirus, up four from Friday’s report. Of those, 129 have been reported in Ocala and another 22 in Summerfield. They are comprised of 79 men, 100 women and three non-residents. They range in age from 1 to 96. There have now been five deaths and 27 people have been treated in area hospitals.
Some of the other cases reported in Marion County are in Citra (7), Dunnellon (7), Belleview (5), Anthony (3), Ocklawaha (3), Umatilla (1) and Reddick (1).
All told, Florida is reporting 35,463 cases, an increase of 735 in 24 hours. Of those, 34,555 are Sunshine State residents. There have been 1,364 deaths and 5,945 people have been hospitalized.
