Cynthia Ann Murphy

A Summerfield woman who became combative with Marion County Sheriff’s deputies and then defecated on herself was jailed Monday night.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to a residence in the 9400 block of SE 144th Lane and when they arrived, a man told them that his girlfriend, later identified as 63-year-old Cynthia Ann Murphy, had been drinking all day. He said she had cut her wrist this past Saturday and was making statements of “wanting to go home,” a sheriff’s office report states.

The boyfriend said about an hour before deputies arrived, she had grabbed a sharp knife and again said she “wanted to go home.” Deputies then spoke with Murphy, who became hostile and said, “I’m going to kick your ass.” She also told deputies she was “going to kill a staff member” if they took her to The Centers, a mental health and addiction facility in Marion County, the report says.

Murphy then defecated on herself and said she was feeling lightheaded. Deputies called for paramedics from Marion County Fire Rescue to do a wellness check on her and she again became combative. She threatened to kick a deputy in the genital area while he was attempting to restrain her and allegedly threatened to kill a deputy when she got out of jail, the report says.

While paramedics were at the Summerfield residence and as deputies were attempting to put Murphy in the back of a patrol vehicle, she “continued to be hostile and make various threats” against a deputy. She was then placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, the report says.

Murphy was charged with simple assault on an officer. She was being held on $1,000 bond and her next court date hasn’t yet been set, jail records show.
