Wildwood commissioners continued to bless a plan Tuesday that would allow a Dairy Queen Grill & Chill to open up in the city.
Commissioners unanimously approved a small-scale comprehensive plan amendment and rezoning to commercial designation on the property where the eatery will be located on the southwest corner of County Road 216 and U.S. 301, diagonally across from the Circle K gas station. In April, the Commission approved annexation of the roughly four-acre parcel.
Dairy Queen’s site plan, submitted by applicant K&C Land Holdings LLC, is being reviewed for compliance with the city’s Land development regulations. Once that process is completed, it will be brought before Special Magistrate Grant Watson for a recommendation.
The nearest existing Dairy Queen is south of County Road 44, just east of Interstate 75. Several other stores are located in Central Florida.
The first Dairy Queen opened in 1940 in Joliet, Ill., serving a soft-serve ice cream developed two years earlier. Now owned by Berkshire Hathaway, there are more than 6,500 Dairy Queen stores in 27 countries. The international corporate headquarters is in Edina, Minn.
