Native of Mexico arrested in Lady Lake after caught driving without license

Panfilo Lara Hernandez

A native of Mexico was arrested in Lady Lake after he was caught driving without a license.

A Lake County sheriff’s deputy at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday noticed a truck running a stop sign at Grays Airport Road and Griffin View Drive, according to an arrest report. The deputy ran the license plate number and discovered the truck’s registration had expired Dec. 31.

The driver, identified as 19-year-old Panfilo Lara Hernandez of Apopka, told the deputy he did not speak English. Hernandez provided the deputy with a Mexican consulate identification card. A check revealed Hernandez had never been issued a driver’s license.

He was arrested on a charge of no driver’s license and cited for driving a vehicle with an expired registration. He was booked at the Lake County Jail, where bond was set at $1,000.

The truck was towed from the scene.
