Another Villager in Sumter County has tested positive for the potentially deadly Coronavirus.

Specific information about the new patient wasn’t released Monday by the Florida Department of Health. But the only new case reported in Sumter County was a 67-year-old woman with an unknown travel history.

That brings the total number of Villagers in Sumter County testing positive for COVID-19 to 70, with 10 others in Lake County and two in the Marion County portion of the mega-retirement community.

On Monday, the tri-county area reported 1,064 cases – an increase of 23 – among 749 men, 469 women, 22 non-residents and one listed as unknown. There have been 41 deaths and 173 people have been hospitalized.

Sumter County reported a total 267 cases – an increase of just one – from Sunday to Monday. Those are comprised of 188 men, 77 women and two non-residents. There have been 17 deaths and 45 people have required some form of hospital care.

Besides the cases in The Villages, 122 have been reported in Bushnell, with all but one of those at the Sumter Correctional Institution (105 inmates and 16 staff members). Other cases have been identified in Lake Panasoffkee (22), Oxford (19), Wildwood (9), Webster (8), Lady Lake portion of the county (6), Sumterville (5) and Coleman (4). The federal prison in Coleman also has identified four cases among three staff members and one inmate.

Lake County is reporting 482 cases – an increase of 18 – among 250 men, 216 women, 15 non-resident and one listed as unknown. There have been 16 deaths and 85 people have required some form of hospital care.

The newest Lake County cases include:

  • 23-year-old woman;
  • 27-year-old man who hadn’t traveled recently but had been in contact with another patient;
  • 89-year-old woman;
  • 64-year-old man;
  • 37-year-old woman;
  • 30-year-old woman; and
  • 34-year-old woman.

Clermont continues to lead the way in Lake County with 123 cases. Others have been reported in Tavares (82), Leesburg (51), Eustis (59), Mount Dora (28), Groveland (23), Lady Lake (20), Mascotte (14), Minneola (8), Sorrento (10), Fruitland Park (6), Montverde (5), Howey-in-the-Hills (3), Altoona (2), Okahumpka (1), Umatilla (9), Grand Island (2), Astor (2), Paisley (2) and Yalaha (1).

Marion County now has 315 cases – an increase of four in a 24-hour period. Those are divided among 134 men, 176 women and five non-residents. There have been eight deaths and 43 people have been seen in area hospitals.
The newest cases in Marion County include:

  • 57-year-old Ocala woman who hadn’t traveled recently nor been in contact with another patient;
  • 55-year-old Dunnellon man who hadn’t traveled recently nor been in contact with another patient;
  • 45-year-old Ocala woman who traveled to New York recently and had been in contact with another patient;
  • 56-year-old Silver Springs woman who traveled to Arizona and had been in contact with another patient;
  • 54-year-old Ocala woman who hadn’t traveled recently nor been in contact with another patient; and
  • 27-year-old Ocala man who hadn’t traveled recently.

The overwhelming majority of Marion County cases – 218 – have been reported in Ocala. Others have been identified in Summerfield (33), Dunnellon (15), Citra (10), Belleview (10), Ocklawaha (6), Anthony (3), Reddick (2), Silver Springs (3) and Fort McCoy (1).

All told, Florida is reporting 77,327 COVID-19 cases – an increase of 1,759 in a 24-hour period. Of those, 73,650 are residents. There have been 2,938 deaths and 12,015 people have been hospitalized across the Sunshine State.
