Dr. Robert Huber Schroeter

Dr. Robert Huber Schroeter passed away on October 8, 2020.

He was born on July 1, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Robert H. Schroeter, Sr. and Mary Mulrow Schroeter. He had one sister, the late Barbara McGrath Gerson. Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Celia Irey (Ceil). Also surviving are their five children: Jane Elizabeth Keenan (Stephen), Rocky Mount, North Carolina; Mary Josephine Klentz (Keith), Land O’ Lakes, Florida; Kathryn Ann Luzzi (Richard), West Chester, Pennsylvania; David Craig Schroeter (Melissa), Saline, Michigan; and Michael John Schroeter (Ellen), Sammamish, Washington.

Robert was especially proud of his thirteen grandchildren. He moved to Marion, Ohio, in 1944 and attended St. Mary’s School where he graduated in 1951. He attended Dayton University and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1955 with a B.S. degree, and he married Celia on July 27, 1957. After working at Marion Metal Products for three years, he decided to go back to The Ohio State University and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1963. He and his family then moved to Fostoria, Ohio, where he practiced dentistry for 36 years, retiring in 1999.

Dr. Bob, as he was often called, enjoyed doing volunteer work and was a member of many different organizations including: St. Wendelin Parish, where he was a member of the first School Advisory Board; AIM for The Handicapped; American Dental Society; Ohio Dental Society; North Central Ohio Dental Society (Past Secretary); Fostoria Dental Society (Past President); Western Ohio Academy of Dental Practice Administration; Medical Equipment And Supplies Abroad Foundation (MESA), helping to furnish Central American countries with needed medical/dental supplies as well as traveling to San Salvador several times to help build and furnish a medical clinic as well as help with tattoo removals; Fostoria Rotary Club (Past President); Fostoria Athletic Booster Club; Fostoria YMCA (named outstanding Layman of the Year in 1971); National YMCA Swimming Council Member as well as swimming coach for the YMCA and both St. Wendelin and Fostoria High Schools; Fostoria Sharing Kitchen, where he and Ceil volunteered for years; American Heart Association, board member for Seneca County Branch; Member of the Advisory Board for Sky Bank; Fostoria Country Club, where he served many terms on the board; University Club of Fostoria; and Valley Creek Lodge. He and Ceil worked with Muscular Dystrophy support groups as well as with the annual Jerry Lewis Telethon. They were very active as staff members for the AIM golf tournament held each year in The Villages, led by Nancy Lopez and Dr. Jo Geiger.

Dr. Bob and Ceil also went to Albania as members of the Christian Medical and Dental Society (CMDS), where he taught in the Albania dental school and also presented lectures to The Albania Dental Society. Dr. Bob was especially proud of teaming up with the late Dr. Dallas Smith to lead the campaign to fluoridate the water supply in Fostoria in the early seventies, thus helping to eliminate tremendous amounts of tooth decay.

Bob and Ceil moved to The Villages, Florida, in 2002 where he continued his love of dentistry as a volunteer dentist at the Community Medical Care Center in Leesburg for many years. He also really enjoyed his role as Membership Chairman for The Greenbriar Social Club. Dr. Bob and Ceil traveled to all seven continents and over 100 countries. He also enjoyed writing, reading, cooking, digital photography, computer projects and especially golf. But his family was the most important thing to him in life, and he felt blessed that he always had Ceil’s support in all his endeavors.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 13, at 8:30 a.m. at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 1351 Paige Pl, Lady Lake, FL 32159. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association at: https://tinyurl.com/donate4doc or mailed to: Muscular Dystrophy Assoc., 161 N.
