Dump truck’s dumped equipment snarls traffic on U.S. Hwy. 441 near Stonecrest

A dump truck’s dumped equipment snarled traffic Saturday afternoon on U.S. Hwy. 441 near Stonecrest in Summerfield.

The Brantley’s Service & Maintenance dump truck had been southbound on U.S. Hwy. 441 at about 3:30 p.m. when the driver attempted to make a left turn near the entrance to the Stonecrest development.  As the driver was making the left, a piece of equipment shifted off the trailer he was towing, which caused the trailer to jack knife.

As a result of the jack knife the dump truck’s rear wheels were lifted off the pavement, thus immobilizing the dump truck and trailer. The piece of heavy equipment was also dropped into the northbound lanes of U.S. Hwy. 441.

Marion County Fire Rescue was on the scene and pulled a firetruck across three lanes of traffic to protect the accident site.

As a result of the accident, traffic in the northbound lanes was backed up for more than a mile.

There did not appear to be any injuries.

Golf course deserves a failing grade
