A homeless man was arrested in an alleged shoplifting incident at Best Buy in Lady Lake.
Raymond Scott Wiant, 49, entered the store Tuesday afternoon and went to the computer section where a Best Buy employee noticed him “squat down,” according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Wiant appeared to have a small item in his hands.
The West Virginia native walked out of the store and was in possession of a pair of JLAPS earbuds for which he had not paid, the report said. The earbuds were valued at $24.99. They had been tucked inside Wiant’s pocket.
He was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of theft and booked at the Lake County Jail on $500 bond.
In May, Wiant spent a day at the Lake County Jail after he was picked up on a Sumter County warrant charging him with failure to appear on a charge of no motor vehicle registration.
