A son fled a Wildwood business in a stolen truck with his mother riding in its bed.
Jimmy John Dandridge, 18, of Wildwood, traveled with his mother Saturday morning to the A Cut Above Polish Shop on State Road 44 in Wildwood. His mother, who works at the polish shop, was driving a white Ford F-150 registered to the business, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. When she got out of the truck, her son slid into the driver’s seat and began to drive away. Pleading with him to stop, she jumped into the bed of the truck, which is where she was riding when her son drove out of the parking lot.
He eventually drove back to the business and ditched the truck. He fled on foot but was captured at the nearby Days Inn hotel.
He had removed the truck’s review mirror and cracked the windshield. The damage was estimated at $800.
Dandridge was arrested on charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle and criminal damage to property. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $3,000 bond.
