Three people transported to hospital after semi jackknifes on I-75 at Wildwood

Three people were transported to an area hospital after a semi jackknifed Thursday afternoon on Interstate 75 at Wildwood.

The 26-year-old trucker from New Port Richey was at the wheel of the Mack truck at 4:32 p.m. traveling south approaching Mile Marker 330 when he lost control of the truck and began braking, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The semi jackknifed and struck a guardrail. The trailer of the semi traveled into the path of a 2017 Volvo driven by a 79-year-old man from Lutz. A flatbed truck driven by a 33-year-old Homestead man then struck the Volvo.

The driver of the semi, the driver of the Volvo and a 78-year-old female passenger in the Volvo were transported by ambulance to Bayfront Health in Brooksville.

The driver of the semi was ticketed on a charge of careless driving.
