The district manager of The Villages government announced via video Wednesday afternoon he’ll be stepping down in January.
District Manager Richard Baier made the announcement in a video played during the Village Center Community Development District Board of Supervisors meeting at Savannah Center.
Baier, who previously worked for Sumter County, succeeded Janet Tutt in 2018 as District Manager.
Baier has battled significant medical challenges in the past year. He said that recent medical evaluations have been encouraging.
In the video, he said he “will be going back into teaching.” He indicated he will be moving from The Villages to Bonita Springs.
He saluted the team in place, including Deputy District Manager Kenny Blocker and Assistant District Manager Carrie Duckett.
Baier’s resignation will be effective Jan. 7.
“The Villages and its residents will never be far from my thoughts as this has been the most gratifying part of my 36 years in government,” he said.
