Isn’t improved golf cart safety the underlying goal of the Community Development District 1 study that shows a $12 to $15 million cost for separating the adjacent golf cart lanes from the motor vehicle lanes on Morse Boulevard north of County Road 466?
But, in the same general area of The Villages, Rio Grande, Paige Place, Avenida Central, and Del Mar all have golf cart lanes adjacent to the motor vehicle lanes; those golf cart lanes are narrower than the lanes on Morse Boulevard. The posted speed limit on Morse (north of 466) is 30 mph, whereas the other streets with adjacent golf cart lanes are posted 25 mph. I have not seen any reports of golf cart accidents on other roadways in the area that have adjacent golf cart lanes; however, there are reports of accidents on Morse Boulevard.
If the present situation on Morse is too dangerous for golf carts, should the speed limit on Morse be dropped to 25 mph and enforced? Currently, there is little enforcement of the 30 mph speed limit. If the residents in CCD 1 are so concerned, why aren’t they both complaining to the Sumter County sheriff when the residents of CCD 1 drive their cars on Morse and are they exceeding 30 mph, endangering the golf carts? All residents of CCD 1 can send a message to the speeders every time they drive on Morse Boulevard.
