
Walter A. Becker

Walter A. Becker, a Village of Liberty Park resident, passed away on March 7, 2024 in Ocala. He was 78 years old.
Born on May 2, 1945 on Manhattan’s Upper East Side to German immigrants Marie (Tscherne) and Gustav Becker. He was Dwight High Schools valedictorian for his graduating class and earned a full scholarship to Middlebury College in Vermont where he earned a degree Political Science in 1968. Walter was the treasurer for his beloved fraternity Kappa Delta Rho where his sparkling blue eyes and charm helped earn him the nickname Woodfrog. He utilized his incredible intelligence for 35 years as a stockbroker for Merrill Lynch.
Walter was married to Kathlein from 1972 until her death in 2017. Walter and his wife raised two children in Long Island’s Massapequa Park until moving to the Villages in 2009. He is a Past Grand Knight for Knights of Columbus, Memorare Council 3476. Wally loved to cheer on his favorite teams the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. Wally performed in several Villages play productions. In August 2017 Wally, as he was known to all his friends, met his new love Margie Maguire. They enjoyed 7 years together and married on March 31, 2021. They enjoyed traveling together visiting many countries. They also enjoyed entertaining and giving parties for all of their friends to enjoy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Kathlein, and a brother Gus.
He is survived by wife Margie, by son Robert Becker, daughter-in-law Jackie Becker, daughter Dawn (Becker) Peterson, son-in-law Scott Peterson, grandchildren, Cole and Charlotte, sister-in-law Barbara Becker, nieces Donna Moran and Debra Smith and many nieces, nephews and faithful friends.
The family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life to be held on Friday, March 15th beginning at 10 AM and a service immediately following at Beyers Funeral Home, 134 US-441, Lady Lake, FL 32159
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Walter’s honor to the Tunnel to Towers.
