A motorcyclist ran a red light moments before a crash in which he suffered traumatic injuries.

The 38-year-old Summerfield man was riding a 2025 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on U.S. 301 at County Road 466 in Oxford at 6:46 a.m. Tuesday when he failed to stop for a solid yellow light that turned red, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

His motorcycle collided with a white 2017 Ford Mustang driven by an 88-year-old resident of The Villages. The Villager had been traveling northbound on U.S. 301 and was in the turn lane waiting to head west onto County Road 466 with a flashing yellow turn signal.

The Ford Mustang’s front bumper struck the front forks of the motorcycle, ejecting the rider. He was flown by helicopter to the trauma center at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and was ticketed for failure to obey a traffic control signal.

The Villager involved in the crash was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
