Alfonso Byrd, a devoted family man, and proud Army veteran, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2024. His life was marked by courage, dedication, and unwavering love for those around him.

Alfonso was born on September 24, 1948, in Bartow, Fl to William Byrd and Eloise Heyward. As a young man, he felt a calling to serve his country, and he enlisted in the United States Army. Where he earned the esteemed Marksman Rifle medal, a testament to his precision and expertise.

Known for his kindness and strong sense of duty, Alfonso was a pillar of strength for his loved ones. He inspired many with his integrity, resilience, and the remarkable stories of 75 well lived years.
His eyes would light up when he spoke of his family, sharing stories of laughter and cherished moments. His wisdom and kindness left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.

Alfonso is survived by his stepfather Harry Heyward Sr., youngest brother Dennis Heyward (Veronique), niece Monique Heyward, 2 nephews Harry “TJ” Heyward III, and William “Ducky” Byrd III, 2 granddaughters Erica Griffin and Sherika Thompson, 8 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father William Byrd Sr., mother Eloise Heyward, siblings; Vivian Hood, William “Bubba” Byrd Jr., Harry “Butch” Heyward Jr., Willie Mae Byrd, and daughter Shawn Vernisha Williamson.

While his presence will be deeply missed, the love and memories shared will always remain.
A private service will be held at Florida National Cemetery (Bushnell) to honor Alfonso’s life and his contributions to his country and community.

Alfonso Byrd’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved him. As we bid farewell, let us remember his courage, honor, and the enduring impact he had on our lives.
